Food Processing Facility Replaces Failing Cast Iron Piping with Orion System

What the Client Needed

A food processing facility in Hicksville, Long Island had been dealing with ongoing issues related to its underground cast iron piping. The facility experienced frequent backups and inconsistent flow, forcing maintenance teams to repeatedly patch and repair sections of pipe just to keep operations running. These short-term fixes required breaking up concrete and addressing problems one section at a time, creating ongoing disruption without solving the root cause. After many piecemeal repairs, the facility recognized the need for a long-term solution that would put an end to recurring failures and reduce maintenance demands.

Solution

The Orion Blueline system was chosen for its durability, ease of installation, and ability to handle occasional chemical exposure within the drainage system. The project included more than 500 feet of Orion piping across multiple diameters, including approximately 320 feet of 8-inch pipe, 230 feet of 6-inch pipe, 140 feet of 4-inch pipe, and additional 30-foot runs of 3-inch and 2-inch pipe.

Results

Feedback from the installation team was overwhelmingly positive. Installers appreciated the simplicity of the fusion process and the reduced labor required compared to traditional piping methods. With proper preparation, the fusion machine handled the connection process, minimizing variability and installation errors. The facility gained a clean, durable drainage system designed to withstand both operational demands and chemical exposure.
