Custom Stainless Steel Riser Cuts Install Time by 80% at Supermarket Distribution Center

What the Client Needed

As part of its 119th anniversary, a supermarket chain upgraded its distribution center in Texas. During construction, the team ran into a challenge with the fire riser system. The standard riser configuration posed clearance issues when stubbing up from the concrete slab into the riser room, making it incompatible with the layout of the facility.

Solution

To overcome this challenge, a custom-built Ames Stainless Steel Fire Riser was designed and installed. The riser was fabricated to meet the customer’s exact specifications, eliminating mechanical connections within the slab and reducing potential failure points. Custom end connections were also integrated to streamline the fit and simplify installation.

Results

The custom solution proved to be a major win for both the customer and the contractors. The stainless steel construction offers superior durability and a longer lifespan than traditional ductile iron risers. More notably, the tailored design reduced installation time from the typical 180 minutes down to just 30 minutes. This 80% reduction not only accelerated the project timeline but also delivered significant labor cost savings.
