A Durable Drains Solution for Wolf Brewing Company

When Wolf Brewing Company of Mechanicsburg, PA, wanted drainage products for their new craft brewery, they turned to Watts. The brewery co-founder wanted to ensure whatever drains they installed would have no issues later on as drain replacement or repair can be costly and very disruptive to an operation like theirs.

To meet these requirements, the project team, including Manufactures’ Rep Vernon Bitzer Associates and others, decided on BLÜCHER trench drains, plus a mix of other stainless steel and cast-iron Watts drains.

The BLÜCHER HygienicPro® stainless steel drains and channels were selected because their channel design evacuates waste faster than standard trench drains. They also withstand the high water temperatures during the brewing process, which can cause some products, like PVC piping, to melt, soften, and break down over time. Highly durable, they are designed to last for the lifetime of the building.

The BLÜCHER drains were also selected to help prevent failure in the surrounding flooring and related products. With its rounded edges, the HygienicPro® helps to decrease the potential for floor cracking and stress at the point where the trench, concrete, and floor coating meet.

The BLÜCHER HygienicPro® and other various Watts drains are in place, and Wolf Brewing Company is very pleased with the system, which they describe as seamless, sanitary, and highly efficient. It cleans faster, significantly reduces wasted water, and drains cleaner – improving safety conditions on the brew house floor. It can withstand the 212-degree temperatures needed for disinfection in a brewery environment, and no amount of steam, boiling water or wort, acids, caustics, or other chemicals can cause the drains to fail.
