High Purity Piping and Drainage Upgrade for an Edmonton Water Analysis Laboratory

What the Client Needed

A major water analysis lab in Edmonton needed to expand its testing capacity by converting existing office space into new laboratory areas. As layout work began, the installation team identified a critical issue with the drainage design because grade limitations made it impossible to tie new main-floor sinks into the existing drainage system. The expansion also required high-purity piping for reverse osmosis and deionized water distribution, which had to fit within tight overhead spaces while supporting extremely sensitive water testing performed at parts per billion. A reliable and adaptable solution was needed to keep the project on track.

Solution

For high-purity water distribution, the team selected the Orion Whiteline polypropylene system for its flexibility, easy handling in low-clearance ceiling areas, and strong constructability advantages. The system’s white polypropylene piping and fusion-style fittings supported clean, reliable assembly and met the lab’s purity requirements. Additionally, the team installed an Orion T5 Neutralization Tank because its high-density polyethylene construction and heat-fused connections delivered a dependable way to manage lab wastewater and directly addressed the drainage challenge caused by the main-floor grade limitations.

Results

The finished installation delivered a fully functional drainage and high-purity piping solution for the expanded laboratory. The replicated neutralization design resolved the grade issue and allowed the new sinks to operate as intended. Orion Whiteline piping provided a clean and dependable system that installers could work with quickly in confined spaces, and the assembled system performed without leaks or complications.

With the retrofit complete, the Edmonton water analysis lab now operates with increased capacity for collecting and testing water samples from across the city. The updated layout and reliable infrastructure support vital monitoring work that helps protect local water quality.
