MTOL+™ Delivers Higher Accuracy and Easier Maintenance

What the Customer Needed

The MidAmerica water treatment plant provides potable water for tenants of the 9,000-acre MidAmerica Industrial Park in Pryor Creek, Oklahoma. The World War II-era plant has undergone multiple upgrades throughout its life. In 2020, plant staff determined that most instrumentation in the plant was obsolete and needed to be replaced. This included the turbidimeters, which were no longer supported by the manufacturer and required a great deal of ongoing maintenance.

Solution

Several upgrade options were evaluated before plant staff chose the MTOL+™ Online Turbidimeter from HF scientific, a Watts brand. The instrument, which measures the turbidity or presence of suspended particles in water, was installed as a trial upon recommendation by an integrator who had extensive experience with the equipment.

Plant instrument and maintenance staff quickly found the MTOL+ to be much easier to calibrate and maintain compared to the previous instrumentation.  The low range three-point calibration also yielded higher accuracy at the very low turbidities at which the plant operates.

Results

Upon completion of the trial, the plant replaced all existing turbidimeters with the HF MTOL+ and has been very happy with their reliability, support, and ease of use.

Based on overall experience with the HF scientific equipment, the plant then evaluated the CLX chlorine analyzer. Its ease of use and maintenance were quickly determined to be far superior to that of the existing plant equipment. The lower purchase price along with lower consumable cost made a conversion an easy decision for plant staff.
