Watts Drains Meet High‑Rainfall Demands on a Multifamily Roof System

What the Client Needed

The Prose multifamily apartment complex in Houston, Texas, consisting of 314 units and targeting completion in January 2027, required a roof drainage and exterior watersourcing system capable of withstanding the region’s intense rainfall patterns. The project team needed an approach that would provide both primary and backup drainage to protect the buildings’ longterm performance, as well as freeze protection for exterior water access. To keep construction on schedule, the contractor and wholesaler also needed rapid local product availability, consistent quality, and strong technical support.

Solution

Watts roof drains and roof hydrants were selected as the most reliable solution for meeting the project’s performance standards. The RD300 series roof drains were chosen for their ability to manage highvolume drainage, and the 2inch external water dam option added essential backup protection to the primary drainage system to maintain roof performance during extreme rain events. For exterior water access, the HY900 roof hydrant was installed because it automatically drains when shut off, reducing the risk of freezing and preventing potential damage to both the hydrant and the piping system.

Results

The project’s success strengthened the ongoing relationship among the partners involved, resulting in the continued use of Watts products for several additional multifamily developments across the Houston area in 2025. What began as a single project requirement evolved into a longterm collaboration built on trust, performance, and a shared commitment to highquality construction.
