Protection for a Minnesota Senior Living Facility

What the Client Needed

Elk River Senior Living is a recently constructed residence for ages 55+ in Elk River, Minnesota. City bylaws require mixing valves in all public buildings, but the owner wanted to go a step further in constructing this new facility. Given the age of residents being served, he was particularly concerned with preventing Legionella growth and wanted to have a water temperature control system that could help mitigate any issues.

Solution

The owner of Kramer Mechanical, the contracting firm involved with the installation, recommended the Powers IntelliStation®, a system he had installed in the past. The IntelliStation is a water mixing system that enables building managers to remotely monitor and control water temperatures through a smart, digital solution integrated into a building automation system.

Elk River selected the IntelliStation to maintain consistent temperature in a safe range (106 – 120 degrees F), even during low and zero demand periods. Kramer Mechanical also recommended the IntelliStation for this installation because of its ease to install. The unit easily fit in the onsite utility room, and because it came all piped, they only needed to connect up the cold water, the hot water, and the recirculation line, saving time and labor.

Results (ROI)

The system is operating without a hitch. Intelligent control of the water recirculation loop ensures safe, precise, and consistent water temperatures in the senior living residence. And, with the built-in sanitization mode, building maintenance has the ability to easily raise the water temperature when needed to flush the system periodically for added protection.
